HASKELL FAMILY LINE

"The most common theory of the origin of this family is that this was the 'Askell' family of Norse origins using the name Askill and Achetell before and after the arrival of the Normans in 1066. The Haskell families appear early within a ten mile radius of Shatesbury, Dorsetshire, England (10 miles southeast of Charlton-Musgrove, Somersetshire)..." However, the latter variations like "Hauscall&334; and "Hurscarl" smack of Norse origins like "Hauskarl". An interesting name.

Surname variations include: Achetell, Ascall, Askell, Askill, Hascal, Hascall, Hascoll, Haskal, Haskall, Haskel, Haskele, Haskell, Haskill, Haskol, Haskul, Hauscall and Hurscarl.
