(Fourth Generation - Emery Family)

FATHER
MOTHER
JOHN EMERY, SR.
ALICE GRANTHAM

BIRTH & BAPTISM John was born in 1628/9 in Romsey, Hampshire, England and was baptized there on 3 February 1628/9[1,11].
DEATH John died in 1693 in Newbury, Essex co., MA; he was 65[57].
MILITARY He is referred to as "Sgt" in several of his children's vital records, thus he was probably in the local militia and was popular enough to have been elected Sergeant by the men.
LEGAL MENTION John Emery, Jr. & William Ilsley witnessed the will of John Bayly of Newbury on 28d:8m(October):1651[92]. John Emery, Jr. deposed on 26 March 1678 "aged about 50 years"[11,90]. "John Emery, Jr., and his wife" were witnesses on 10 October 1650[11,91].
MARRIAGE Before 1650 when John was 22, he married Mary [surname not known], in Newbury, Essex co., MA[11,93,57,94,95,96,97,98,99,100,101]. She died on 3 November 1699 in Newbury, Essex co., MA[57,75]. Torrey, however, says that she died in 1709. Please note that despite frequent claims to the contrary, John's wife was not his stepsister Mary Webster[11,89]. Torrey postulates that she is Mary WHIPPLE, "dau. of Matthew not accounted for"[57].
