BIRTH John2 was born on 16 August 1632 in Boston, Lincolnshire, England[1,2,18]. His birth is recorded in the Boston, Lincolnshire, England Parish Register as "John son of George Burrell". Like his brother, Francis, his birth is also recorded in the Lynn, Essex co., MA vital records as "Burrill, John, s. George [bef. 1640]".
DEATH John2 died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 24 April 1703; he was 70[5]. Note that the Lynn death record says that he was "a. 72 y.".
MIGRATION John2 came over with his family sometime in the 1630s.
OCCUPATION He was a maltser and tanner. As discussed in the record of Thomas Newhall (1630), the town maltser was an important occupation of some skill. Since the English emigrants brought with them their intense mistrust of well water, the Great Migrants drank mostly beer, cider and -- in summertime, when it was plentiful -- milk. While any housewife could make terrific beer and cider, the task of converting grain to malt (a necessary ingredient for beer) was best left to a professional. Chances are, John2 worked with and/or apprenticed with Thomas Newhall.
MILITARY SERVICE As seen by his title, he also was in the Lynn militia and was popular enough to have been elected a junior officer by his men.
TOWN SERVICE John served as Representative to the Massachusetts General Court for the town of Lynn in 1691,1692 and 1697. He also served as Town Clerk in 1691[25].
CITIZENSHIP Freemanship is implied by his military & town service.
MARRIAGE On 10 May 1656 when John2 was 23, he married Lois IVORY, daughter of William IVORY & Ann SOUTH, in Lynn, Essex co., MA[8,26,27,28,29,30,31,32,33,34,35].

CHILDREN 33. i. John1 BURRILL John1 was born on 15 October 1658 in Lynn, Essex co., MA as "Burrill, John, s. John and Lois"[42]. He died before 7 January 1663, when another son was named "John".
34. ii. Sarah BURRILL Sarah was born on 16d:3m(May):1661 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[42]. Sarah has two birth records in the Lynn, Essex co., MA vital records. One reads: "Burrell, Sara, d. John and Lewis [sic]"; the other reads: "Burrill, Sarah, d. John and Lois" and gives the new style date of 16 May 1661. She died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 27 December 1714; she was 53.
35. iii. Captain John2 BURRILL John2 was born on 7 January 1663 in Lynn, Essex co., MA as "Burrill, Jo[h]n, s. Jo[h]n"[44] and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 10 December 1721; he was 58[20]. John, Jr. took the Oath of Freeman on 18 April 1691[45]. Like his father, John2 served in the militia and made the senior rank of Captain. Also, like his father, he served as Representative to the General Court for the Town of Lynn in 1691, 1962, 1693-1696, 1698-1701, 1704, 1707, 1709 and 1711-1719. In 1707 and 1709, he was elected Speaker of the House[25]. On 28 July 1680 when John2 was 17, he married Mary STOWERS, daughter of Richard STOWERS and Hannah FROSTin Lynn, Essex co., MA[46].
36. iv. Thomas BURRILL Thomas was born on 7 January 1663 in Lynn, Essex co., MA.
37. v. Anna BURRILL Anna was born on 15 September 1666 in Lynn, Essex co., MA and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 20 March 1693/4; she was 26[20].
38. vi. Theophilus BURRILL Theophilus was born as "Burrell, Theophilus" on 15d:5m(July):1669 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[37] and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 4 May 1737; he was 68. On 5 July 1694 when Theophilous was 25, he married Lydia GATHERCOLE, in Boston, Suffolk co., MA[47]. Their marriage record reads "Burrel, Theophelus and Lydia Gathercole of Boston, at Boston". Lydia died on 11 June 1726 in Lynn, Essex co., MA, "a. 60 y."[36].
39. vii. Lois BURRILL Lois was born on 27d:11m(January):1671 in Lynn, Essex co., MA as "Burrell, Lois" AND as "Burrill, Lois, d. John and Lois"[48]. On 5 June 1695 when Lois was 23, she married Samuel SPRAGUE, in Boston, Suffolk co., MA[47]. Their marriage record reads "Burrell, Loise, and Samuel Sprague of Woburn, at Boston".
40. viii. Samuel BURRILL Samuel was born on 20 April 1674 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[41] and died on 7 May 1674 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[39]. His death record can be found in the Lynn, Essex co., MA under "Burrell, Samuell".
41. ix. Mary BURRILL Mary was born on 18 February 1676 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[49] and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 26 October 1694; she was 18[36].

43. xi. Ruth BURRILL Ruth was born on 17 May 1682 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[41] and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 23 October 1771; she was 89. Ruth married Captain Benjamin POTTER, son of Captain Robert POTTER & Ruth DRIVER. Benjamin was born on 11 April 1680 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[55] and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 25 April 1745; he was 65[56].
