Richard deposed as being aged seventy-six on 8 May 1693.

DEATH
|
He died in Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA on 10 July 1693; he was 76[5,37]. In the town
records, his death date is given as 8 July 1693 and says that he "arrived 1628".

MIGRATION
|
Richard migrated to New England with his family in 1628 or 1629.

CHURCH MEMBERSHIP
|
He was admitted to the Charlestown church on 12d:2m(April):1650[5] and
his wife "Johanna" was admitted to the church on 14d:1m(March):1652[5].

OCCUPATION
|
Richard Stowers was licensed to keep a house of entertainment in 1658[5].

RESIDENCE & REAL ESTATE
|
He became an official inhabitant of Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA in 1648[5].
In 1646, he bought a house, barn, shop and 2 adjacent acres of land on Charlestown Neck from George
Whitchand. At that time, he also had 2 cow commons and 1 hay-lot on the Mystic River side of
Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA -- next to Thomas Call's lot. In 1653/4, he bought 40 acres of
land from William Marable and in 1654, sold 2 acres of land to H. Dunster. In 1685, he sold the
6 acre woodlot (#133) "which was of my mother Amy" to Henty Green. This deed was
recorded in 1693. Finally, in 1687, he sold 1 acre of land to Josiah Smith.

ESTATE
|
Richard's will was written on 21 April 1693 and proved on 31 July 1693. It was primarily
devised to his wife that she should received the whole estate as long as she lived. Mary Dicerman
received 20 shillings. All the grandchildren received legacies and, finally, all four daughters
received the house and land, which was to be kept together. 5 acres which had been bought from
Deacon Ludkin "with my son John Carter's money" was not to be included in the inventory.
Witnesses to the will were Thomas Burrage, Daniel Kittredge; Mary Cowdrey. The worth of his inventory
of house & lands was £704[5].

MARRIAGE
|
Before 15 October 1647 when Richard was 30, he married
Hannah FROST, daughter of
Henry FROST, in Charlestown, Suffolk co.,
MA[1,7,38,44,45]. An intention also filed. Hannah was born circa 1617, as estimated
from death information[37]. She died in Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA on 2 February
1698/9; she was 81[1,46].
