NAME VARIATIONS | Mathew's given name is also spelled Matthew, Mathias and Mathyas in various records. |
MIGRATION | Mathew migrated to New England with his parents, brother and two sisters aboard the Hopewell in 1635. |
OCCUPATIONS | After the death of his father, he became the owner of the "well known tidemill in Lynn"[5] and inherited his father's business as Miller. |
RESIDENCE | He inherited his father's homestead. |
TOWN SERVICE | He became a trusted member of the Lynn, Essex co., MA community. Mathew, along with John Fuller, Thomas Couldum, Nathaniel Kirtland and Jonathan Hudson, witnessed Anthony Newhall's will on 14 January 1656. Mathew and John Fuller proved it in court on 31 March 1657. On that same day, Richard Hood was granted administration on the will and Mathew, John Fuller & Nathaniel Kirtland were appointed overseers[39]. In addition, Mathew, John Burrill and Nathaniel Kirtland, Sr. were appointed overseers of John Witt, Sr. of Lynn's will of 12 September 1675[40]. |

MARRIAGE | In 1648 when Mathew was 28, he married Elizabeth SISLEY, daughter of Henry SISLEY, in Lynn, Essex co., MA[2,41]. Elizabeth died on 15d:10m(December)1678 in Lynn, Essex co., MA[42]. |

John's parentage as being the son of Mathew and Elizabeth [Sisley] Farrington is not strictly
proven, but signs point to it in the accepted genealogies of Farrington and Newhall[5].
He married Lydia HUDSON and they had one child, named John, who was born on
22d:9m:1680[79] and was a Farmer[79].
On 2 May 1751, John, Jr. deeded circa 40 acres of land "with house, barn and other buildings" to his son Jeremiah. The land was "bounded east on land of John and Joseph Fuller and Robert Mansfield, south on John Newhall's land, west on land of the Newmans and Capt. Jacob Newhall and others, and north on common lots[80]." On 12 Jan 1710/1 when John was 29, he married Hannah NEWHALL, daughter of John NEWHALL & Sarah FLANDERS[79]. Hannah was born on 6 Mar 1679/80[81].
