This branch of the Carroll family was a wealthy, landed family from "the North part of Ireland" which emigrated to America in 1801. I believe that the current patriarch, Samuel, had been one of the Irish gentry who took part in the Uprising of 1798 and, unfortunately, lost.
There is much information on the Irish roots of the various Carroll families, but until Samuel's lineage can be firmly established and we can narrow that infomation down to the coorect line, I will refrain from throwing out information simply on speculation. I have included these in the Carroll Family Report, if one would care to read them.
Name variations in records are: Carrolle, Carol, Caroll, Cariel, Carill, Cariell, Carral, Carrall, Carrel, Carrell,
Carriel, Carriell, Carril, Carrill, Carrol, Carroll, Carryl, Carrole, O'Carroll, MacCarroll, MacCarvill, O'Caeraill,
O Carrowill, O Carwell, O Carvill and Carvill. Thus, as one can see, tracing them is a difficulty. The Mormon records have
not helped.
