BIRTH & DEATH Allen was born in 1626 or 1630 in Westoninge Parish, Bedfordshire, England[2] and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA before 11 February 1707; he was 81[2]. Torrey says that Allen, Jr. was born in 1630. Another source says that at the age of 4, Allen was baptized in Pullowhill, Bedfordshire, England on 27 January 1630[42]. Allen died between 1704 when his will was written and 11 February 1707 when his will was recorded as Essex Probate #3188.
MIGRATION Allen came over with his parents sometime before 1638.
OCCUPATION & NAME CHANGE He was a Husbandman and the first generation to change the spelling of the family name from "Bread" to "Breed", which he did circa 1700.
RESIDENCES & REAL ESTATE DEALS Allen, Jr. lived in the western end of Lynn, MA on the 230 acres inherited from his father.
WILL Allen's will reads as follows:
"I, Allen Breed, being of sound and perfect mind and memory...though aged and feeble in body, do constitute...this my Last Will and Testament...First...I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God... and my Body I commit to the earth to be decently buried...and I give and dispose thereof as followeth. I will that my debts and funeral charges be discharged and paid.

I give and bequeath to my eldest son Timothy Breed, that piece of land, upland and meadow, that his now dwelling house stands upon, and 2 acres in the fresh marsh. Likewise I give him the lot below my house of salt marsh and upland from the pasture ditch downwards, except 3 acres on the west side. Also that piece of ground that was bought of Nicholas Browne, lying between Francis Burrill and Samuel Breed's land adjoining to it. Also 1/4 of my wood lot, he having the second choice.

I give...to my son Allen Breed, 1 1/2 acres where his dwelling house stands, bounded north by the highway and land of Joseph Hall...also 1 acre of fresh meadow in the fresh marsh, bounded north by land given to my son Timothy; also 1/4 of my wood lot, he having the third choice.

I give...to my son John Breed, 10 shillings, because I have already given him his portion (John was living in Stonington, CT).

I give...to my son Samuel Breed all my housing with the land adjoinging except the 1 1/2 acres before given to son Allen. I also give him the picket (so called) as the fence now stands., and 3 acres of salt marsh, except that in my legacy to Timothy; also one acre of upland, except that given to Timothy; and 1/4 of my wood lot.

I give to my daughter Mary Lewis five pounds.

I give to my daughter Elizabeth Burrage five pounds. And my will...is that the legacies be paid out of my lands, and that my sons have free liberty peaceably to pass and repass through each other's land...for the bringing of the produce...

Finally I...ordain my four sons, Timothy, Joseph, Allen and Samuel joint executors...and do revoke...all former wills...made heretofore. In witness I set my hand and seal.

MARRIAGE Circa 1654 when Allen was 28, he married Mary SARGENT, daughter of Reverend William SARGENT & Mary/Marie [surname not known], in Lynn, Essex co., MA[2,27,32,29,21,44,36,45,46] Mary's pedigree, like that of Mary GYE, wends its way through back to the Dark Ages. It will receive its own treatment later. For now, I've given just the pedigree of the Sargent Family.

CHILDREN 14. i. Timothy BREED Timothy was born circa 1656. Sometime after 27 November 1688 when Timothy was 32, he first married Sarah BRAN. On 3 Mar 1679/80 when Timothy was 23, he second married Sarah NEWHALL, daughter of John NEWHALL Jr. & Elizabeth NORMANTON[49]. Sarah was born on 22 August 1662[50,51] and was buried on 27 November 1688[49]. She is Waters #68.

16. iii. Allen BREED Allen Tertius was born in 30d:6m(August):1660 in Lynn, Essex co., MA as "Bread, Allen, s. Allen, jr. and Mary"[62]. During the lifetimes of his father, Allen, Jr., & grandfather, Allen, Sr., he was commonly known as Allen "Tertius". He took the Oath of Freeman on 18 April 1691[48]. On 22d:3m(May):1684 when Allen was 24, he married Elizabeth BALLARD, in Lynn, Essex co., MA[63] as "Broad, Allen". Elizabeth died in 1743 in Lynn, Essex co., MA. Buried in 26d:5m(July):1743 in Lynn, Essex co., MA as "Breed, __, wid. Allen, Œold'"[64].

They had one child:
i. Mary (1691-1775)

17. iv. Captain John BREED John was born in 28d:11m(January):1662[/3] in Lynn, Essex co., MA as "Bread, John, s. Allen, jr."[62] and died in Lynn, Essex co., MA on 14 December 1728; he was 66 [53]. He married Mercy PALMER.
18. v. Mary BREED Mary was born in 24d:6m(August):1664 in Lynn, Essex co., MA as "Bread, Mary, d. Allen, jr."[62]. She married Thomas LEWIS.
19. vi. Elizabeth BREED Elizabeth was born on 1d:9m(November):1667 and died on 16 June 1709; she was 22 [62]. She married Thomas BURRAGE.
