SPORTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS In 1938, Walter held the World Record for the high hurdles. His entry in the 1939 World Almanac reads: "Walter Hall, Boston College Freshman, set a world record in the 45 yard high hurdles (Feb. 15, 1938) at the Knights of Columbus indoor games at Providence, R.I. The former Boston English High School 600 yards champion slid over the barriers in 5.66 seconds."[76]. Were it not for World War II, he would have been a lock for the 1940 Olympic team.

He and his teammates won the Penn Relays during his Tufts racing career.
EDUCATION From high school, Walter became the first member of his family to go on to college. He was able to get an Economics scholarship to Boston College and attended BC for a year. He transferred to the superior track team and academics of Tufts College. He distinctly remembered travelling from his home in Quincy to his orientation in Tufts in Medford via streetcar on 21 September 1938...not realizing that he was travelling through the great 1938 Hurricane to do so. After all, no one believed that hurricanes could hit New England at that time.
RESIDENCES He & his family lived at 580 Main Street, Lynnfield Center, Essex co., MA (when daughter Heather was born)[77]; 515 Summer Street, Lynnfield Center, Essex co., MA (when son Alan was born)[78]; Ramsdell Road, Falmouth Foreside, ME (when daughter Kristin was born); South Palisades Drive, Signal Mountain, TN (from 1965-early 1970); Monmouth, IL (1970-1971); Lexington, Middlesex co., MA (1971-1974); 384 Whitney Street, Northborough, Worcester co., MA (1974-1994); Sudbury, Middlessex co.., MA (1994-2002); currently living in Berlin, Worcester co., MA.
MILITARY SERVICE When World War II broke out, he enlisted in Officer's School for the Coast Guard and was assigned a ship upon completion of his training. Walter served in the Coast Guard during World War II as the commanding officer of a sub chaser in the Pacific.
MARRIAGE #1 He married Barbara Ann MADDISON daughter of Arthur Blake MADDISON & Marion Louise NEWHALL, on 20 February 1943 at Crane Chapel, Tufts University, Medford, MA by the reverend George Ladd[62,79,80].
MARRIAGE #2 He second married Jean STEARNS AMADON on 28 November 1992 at 251 Old Sudbury Road, Sudbury, Middlesex co., Massachusetts by Avis Hoyt-O'Connor[84].
