STACY B. HALL, JR.

(1868-1947) - New Castle & Portsmouth, Rockingham co., NH and Eliot, York co., ME

(Third Generation - Hall Family)

FATHER
MOTHER
Stacy Hall, Sr.
Abbie Neal

BIRTH Stacy B. was born on 28 June 1868 in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH[3,12,13].
DEATH He died in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH on 9 December 1947; he was 79[13]
BURIAL He is buried in the New Castle Cemetery, New Castle, Rockingham co., NH[13].
OCCUPATION Stacy, Jr. started by following in his father's footsteps (no pun intended) by entering the shoe trade. His first job appears to be that of a shoe cutter. However, he discovered the Navy Yard and changed careers later in life (a Hall trait) becoming first a boat builder, then engineer[15,16,17,18,19,21].
FAMILY LORE & FRATERNAL ORGANIZATIONS In addition, Stacy B. joined the family male tradition of joining the Masons (LaForrest & Walter were also Masons). He was a Knight Templar in the Masonic Lodge in the York area[11]. Stacy was known as "Uncle Stace" and claimed that the family goes back to "pirates and they all got hung". He also claims that we have "Indian Blood"[11], and his wife Carrie - the "Aunt Carrie" of family lore - claimed descent from French Royalty[11]. Both claims have yet to be proven.
RESIDENCES Stacy B. lived all his life in the Downeast ME/Seacoast NH area. He is in the records of Kittery & Eliot, York co., ME[11,15,16]; Marston's Island[17]; and both 3 Edward Street[21] and 32 Washington Street in Portsmouth, Rockingham co., NH[18].

1920 Census, Eliot, York co., ME:
Stacy B. Hall, 51, working in Navy Yard, occupation is hard to read, but looks like "electrical machinist"
  Carrie K. Hall, wife, 50
  Stacy Hall, father, 84, Widowed[10]

Like his father and brother, Ordway, the Portsmouth City Directories provide a good record of Stacy B.'s occupations and residences from 1886 to 1903.
1894 - Stacy was a Shoe Cutter and he lived at P.S. Co. h. [sic] at Kittery, ME[6].
  1895 - Stacy's information was the same[7].
1897 - He was still a Shoe Cutter, but now lived on Marston's Island[8].
[N.B. I find no record of where Marston's Island is or was; either in ME or NH]
1901 - Stacy was now a Boat Builder and lived at 3 Edward[12].
1903 - He was now an engineer and lived at 32 Washington Street[9].
By 1905, Stacy and his sons had disappeared from the Portsmouth City Directories[10].

MARRIAGE Stacey B. married Carrie K. [surname not known]. Carrie was born on 23 March 1869 in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH.[3,13] Carrie K. died in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH on 1 January 1953; she was 83.[13] She is buried in New Castle Cemetery - New Castle, Rockingham co., NH.[13] She is buried next to Stacy B.[4].

CHILDREN 18. i. Gerald E. HALL Gerald was born on 9 March 1915 in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH[3,13] and died in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH on 16 Oct 1949; he was 34[13]. He is buried in the New Castle Cemetery in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH.[13] According to family lore, Gerald settled in Danvers, Essex co., MA and his wife ran off and left him.[3]

Gerald & his brother Reginald were sometimes mistakenly mentioned as brothers of Ordway Hall & sons of Stacy Hall, Sr. This is clearly a confusion of Stacy, Sr. & his namesake son, Stacy B..[11]

Gerald E. married Marion J. [surname not known], who died on 8 January 1922 in New Castle, Rockingham co., NH and (curiously, if she ran off and left him) is buried in the family plot in New Castle Cemetery, New Castle, Rockingham co., NH.[13]

They had the following children:
43 i. Darrell ["Jed"] - He lived in Danvers, Essex co., MA[3].
44 ii. Stacey, Jr. - He was also known as "Stacy".
19. ii. Phillip HALL We know nothing more of Phillip.
20. iii. Reginald HALL Reginald was married and had 1 or 2 kids.[3] Gerald & his brother Reginald were sometimes mistakenly mentioned as brothers of Ordway Hall & sons of Stacy Hall, Sr. This is clearly a confusion of Stacy, Sr. & his namesake son, Stacy B..[11]
