HISTORICAL TIDBIT John was one of the men who participated in the "physical examination" of John Proctor and John Willard during the Salem Witch Hysteria. The "examination" turned up no devil's marks.
BIRTH John was born on 15 April 1645 in Salem, Essex co., MA[1,39,44] and baptized in Salem, Essex co., MA on 11 May 1645[2,45]. John's birth record reads: "Giles, John, s. Edward [Edmond in C.R.1] and Bridgett."
DEATH According to Torrey, John died possibly in 1730; he would have been 84[1].
MARRIAGE #1 Before 1671 when John was 25, he first married Elizabeth TIDD daughter of Samuel TIDD, in Salem, Essex co., MA[1,20,48,49,50,51]. Elizabeth was born in May of 1642[1].
MARRIAGE #2 On 5 May 1679 when John was 34, he second married Elizabeth GALLEY in Beverly, Essex co., MA by Major Dennison[1,2,52,53,20,46,54]. Elizabeth was the widow of Osmand TRASK. John & Elizabeth's Salem Marriage record reads: "Gyells, John, widr. and Elisabeth Trask, wid., of Beverly, at Salem." [46] Torrey has him under "Gyells"[1]. Their Marriage record in Beverly reads "Gyels, John, widr., of Salem, and Elis[abeth] Trask, wid., May 5, 1679"[47].

10. ii. Bridgett GILES Bridgett was born on 1 January 1683 in Beverly, Essex co., MA[55] as "Gyles, Bridgett". Bridgett died in Beverly, Essex co., MA on 10 February 1688/9; she was 5[59].
