BIRTH & MIGRATION Ellen was born in England and brought her by her older brother Captain Thomas LATHROP in 1633, as testified to in the fight over her brother's estate.
HER BROTHER AND THE WRANGLING OVER HIS ESTATE Much is known of Ellenıs brother Thomas, but little of her. He was a hero of the King Philpıs War and was killed at Bloody Brook. Having died intestate, the wrangling over his estate provides much of the information on Ellen - biased as it is from her husbandıs depositions, since they are angling for part of the estate. After nearly a decade of legal wrangling over the estate, it was left to his wife Bethiah, going to his sister Ellen and her heirs after Bethiahıs death. This testimony is ³My brother, when he brought his sister form England with him from all her friends and relations very loathe to part with her, used this as a great argument with her mother to persuade her. Viz: That he had no children of his own, nor was likely to have any: and otherwise he must give what he had to strangers²2,3,4
