BIRTH Richard was born circa 1609 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England[1]. He was aged 25 at time of his migration in 1634.
DEATH Richard died in Groton, Middlesex co., MA on 1 March 1696; he was 87, "aged, infirm and a widower"[1].
MIGRATION Richard migrated to New England aboard the Francis, Mr. John Cutting, master, which embarked on 30 April 1634 and landed in Ipswich, Essex co., MA[1,3].
RESIDENCES He first settled in Watertown, Middlesex co., MA[3] and later removed to Groton, Middlesex co., MA[2]. He must have owned land in Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA, as he earned an entry in Wyman[2].
ESTATE Wyman has the following information on Richard Holden's estate: "Deed to chn. Justinian, John, Steeven [2nd of the name, m. Hannah Lawrence, Stephen, 1st of the name, b. 1642, was killed in Groton by felling a tree, 1658]; Martha w. of Thomas Boyden; Sarah, s. of Gershom Swan; Elizabeth; Samuel; [Mary] w. of Thomas Williams; 20 acres in Woburn left by Stephen Gosdick; 1663-4; rec. 1679Š"[2] Note that Wyman has confused Stephen with John in describing which child died in the "felling [of] a tree". There is no second Stephen Holden.
MARRIAGE Before 1642 when Richard was 33, he married Martha FOSDICK, daughter of Stephen FOSDICK & Anna HARRE, either in Watertown or Woburn, Middlesex co., MA[4,5,6,7,8,9].

CHILDREN 4. i. Justinian HOLDEN Justinian was of Groton, Middlesex co., MA in 1680[1]. Justinian married Mariah [surname not known].
5. ii. John HOLDEN John died in 1658 in Groton, Middlesex co., MA; killed as he was felling a tree[2].
6. iii. Stephen HOLDEN Stephen was born on 19 July 1642 in Watertown, Middlesex co., MA[1] and lived in Groton, Middlesex co., MA[1].
7. iv. Martha HOLDEN Martha was born on 15 January 1645/6 in Watertown, Middlesex co., MA[1] and married Thomas BOYDEN.

10. vii. Samuel HOLDEN Samuel was of Groton, Middlesex co., MA in 1682[1] and married Anna [surname not known].
